Every commission begins with a single conversation. The studio door is open by appointment, and the line is always answered by a person — not an inbox bot.

A Note From Ilya

Write to us the way you would write to a friend.

The studio is small, and it is run by hand. When you reach out, your note lands on a desk — not a queue — and I read it myself before anyone else does. If you have a wall you are looking at, a photograph you keep returning to, or a person you would like preserved in pigment, tell me about it. There is no form to fill out and no script to follow.

A first message is most useful when it includes three things: the room or subject you have in mind, the size you imagine the finished work to be, and the window of time you are working within. Everything else — medium, framing, whether to travel to you for a sitting — we work out together, usually across a single thirty-minute call.

— Ilya Marchenko, Studio Director
