A painting is only as honest as the things it is made from. The studio refuses anything that would compromise the longevity of a piece intended to outlive its first owner.
Every canvas is built by hand in-studio from unwashed Belgian linen, sized with traditional rabbit-skin glue and stretched onto joinery-grade hardwood bars. We do not use pre-primed cotton or factory-stretched substrates. The linen retains the irregular tooth of a living weave, so pigment catches rather than slides.
Color is mixed from dry pigment and cold-pressed linseed oil on a glass slab, the same way it was done before the tube. Hues shift and breathe under a hand-ground palette in ways the factory-mixed substitute cannot — a portrait commissioned today will still read with the same warmth a century from now.
Each painting is sealed with a damar-and-mastic varnish built up in thin layers over months, never a single synthetic spray coat. The finish deepens quietly as it cures. Future conservation — a real consideration for any serious collector — remains fully reversible to a trained conservator a hundred years from today.
Series & Large-Format
Collectors who commission once typically return. The studio maintains long arcs of work for patrons building cohesive family portraits, generational series, and architectural-scale paintings for principal rooms.
Provenance & Practice
The portrait calendar runs roughly six months from signed agreement to first brushstroke. That interval is not a delay to apologise for — it is the duration the work demands, and the signal that the studio is not a marketplace filling slots. Collectors who acquire on a longer horizon understand the value of a number on a list that has held for over a decade.
Once a project is accepted, every step is documented in a private commission file: ground plans, reference photography, layered progress plates, and a signed certificate of authenticity archived at the studio.
Paintings from the studio now live with private collectors across fourteen countries on four continents, and a permanent acquisition joined the Brooklyn Museum of Art collection in 2023. International commissions ship crated, insured, and customs-cleared by a single dedicated logistics partner who has handled every cross-border delivery since the studio's founding.
Nineteen editorial features — including Architectural Digest, House & Garden, and Galerie Magazine — sit alongside the studio's own records. A collector inherits the documentation, not just the object.
